Production has begun on a movie based on APB speaker John O’Leary’s bestselling book—On Fire: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life. It stars William H. Macy, John Corbett, Joel Courtney, DeVon Franklin and Stephanie Szostak. Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer, Reagan, A Wing and Prayer) is directing. In 1987, O’Leary was a curious nine-year-old boy. Playing with fire and gasoline, John created a massive explosion in his home and was burned on 100% of his body. He was given less than a 1% chance to live. Together with legendary St. Louis Cardinals’ announcer Jack Buck, John’s family, his faith and the entire city of St. Louis, young O’Leary fought to live, and showed us “what’s possible.”

The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery recently premiered portraits of three women who broke barriers in the U.S. military, including APB speaker and the First Female U.S. Navy Four-Star Admiral (Retired) Michelle J. Howard. Also featured are General (Retired) Ann Elizabeth Dunwoody, who made history as the first woman to become a four-star general in the U.S. military; and General (Retired) Janet C. Wolfenbarger, who became the first woman to achieve a four-star general rank in the U.S. Air Force. The portraits were shot by Photographer An-My Lê.
