Biography

Rachel Macy Stafford has one goal: help people choose love as much as humanly possible. This New York Times best-selling author, trained educator, and gifted storyteller’s audiences respond to her universal invitations to embrace life with urgency—and to love, connect, create, and flourish despite the pressures of our culture. Rachel’s books, courses, and presentations inspire personal and relational transformation, and help people build and maintain authentic connections in an age of endless distraction.

Rachel, a certified special education teacher with a master’s degree in education, experienced a life-changing shift in 2010. The shift came after the honest answer to a seemingly simple question, "How do you do it all?” Her answer, which had been a source of pride in the past, was now painful to admit: "I miss out on life, and what I miss I cannot get back."

That was the day Rachel began her Hands Free journey to let go of distraction, perfection, and societal pressure so she could grasp what really matters. Using her passions for teaching, writing, and encouraging others, Rachel began an online blog chronicling her small, but impactful steps to live joyfully and presently in our fast-paced, overly pressured, media-saturated world. As insights from her journey fell into the hands (and onto the screens) of others who also felt trapped by their distractions, Rachel quickly gained a devoted following of 1 million+ readers and sparked an international movement. A New York Times bestselling author, Rachel has published five books, Hands Free Mama, Hands Free Life, Only Love Today, Live Love Now, and Soul Shift. Whether virtual or in-person, her keynotes, courses, workshops, and retreats have helped global audiences cultivate joy and inner peace in the everyday, a practice Rachel knows is vital to thriving in the unstable and information saturated climate in which we live.

Rachel’s warm, authentic demeanor, combined with her practical and prescriptive advice, make her a favorite and reliable source for the media. Rachel has enjoyed appearing on Good Morning America, The Today Show, CNN, Global News Morning Show, The Chris Evans Breakfast Show and many others. Rachel’s work has been published in hundreds of respected publications including USA Today, The Washington Post, Huffington Post, Thrive Global, Reader's Digest, Real Simple Magazine, Scholastic Parent & Child, ParentLife Magazine, and The Mindful Parent Magazine. Rachel is a popular weekend workshop presenter at renowned retreat centers like 1440 Multiversity, Omega Institute, Kripalu, and the Art of Living Retreat Center.

Rachel’s message of living with intention, awareness, and compassion in the digital age resonates universally with audiences from national corporations, nonprofits, regional healthcare, education, and beyond. Rachel has been honored to work with Home Depot, Indiana Regional Medical Center, YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, Association of Infant Mental Health, PVH Corp, National Charity League, Girls on the Run International, Fundraiser for the Education of Eating Disorders, Whiteman Air Force Base, African Road, Spark Kindness, TriMedx, and Wisdom 2.0, and more.

Through her inspiring writing, impactful online presence, and transformative teachings, Rachel Macy Stafford has made it her life’s work to equip individuals with habits that allow them to invest in the most significant parts of life. When people cultivate harmony within themselves, they are able to create everlasting, healing ripples into their families, communities, and work cultures.

Rachel nurtures herself by walking shelter dogs, baking every kind of muffin under the sun, and spending time with her husband and two young adult daughters who inspire her daily.

Mapping Your Shift From Burnout to Well-Being

The term ‘work-life balance’ suggests an illusion that we can divide the many parts of our lives into neat boxes, each receiving an even distribution of the time, energy, and focus they require. However, life is not containable; it’s fluid, complex, and unpredictable. This was true even before the global pandemic.

Now, we recognize the elusive boundaries between work and life have crumbled to non-existence. We are on our way to becoming a population of burned out, busted up humans who feel like the bottom has completely fallen out. So, what do we do? Rachel Macy Stafford advocates we flatten the box into a piece of cardboard and use it to make a map—a map to help us navigate this uncharted territory together, one with pathways wide enough to include all parts of ourselves. From surviving to thriving… from competition to community… from unhealthy expectations and relentless pressure to healthy boundaries and inner peace.

Building Strong Connections with Kids in a Distracted & Divided World

Today’s young people are facing issues no previous generation has ever faced. Rachel Macy Stafford has a gift for showing us how to become a truth-teller, encourager and guide to support kids and teens as they navigate the stressors of today, including academic pressure, technoference, lack of purpose, isolation and the absence of effective coping skills.

The new realities of parenting are challenging, but if we are willing to live a life anchored by truth, presence and connection, there is great hope. Rachel weaves tools of her trade as a special education teacher with the daily rhythms of life and brings practical strategies straight to the weary hearts of anyone who loves young people. Whether parent, educator, neighbor, or friend, audiences will leave encouraged and hopeful.

Only Love Today: Self-Care for Givers

When you have children, parents, partners, friends, and colleagues that constantly depend on you, it’s easy to abandon your own needs and become stuck in a loop of depletion, resentment, and despair. Living in this state leads to burnout, which is never sustainable. Over time, the stress builds up, wreaking havoc on your health, well-being, and relationships.

Although the idea of shifting from constantly pouring from yourself to routinely investing in yourself may feel impossible, uncomfortable, or even self-indulgent, Rachel Macy Stafford knows the quality of your life depends on learning to make this shift. Inspired by her hugely popular bestselling book, Only Love Today, Rachel invites participants to expand their capacity for self-compassion and build a foundation for true self-care using the power of awareness and boundary setting. Attendees will leave with a practical plan designed to prioritize the relationship they have with themselves and finally begin giving themselves the same care they give others.

Uncovering Your Personal Path to Joy

Rachel Macy Stafford shares five key insights that spark a wondrous self-discovery process, enabling us to make small, sustainable habit shifts towards joy without overhauling our lives. Participants will be equipped with tools to overcome self-defeating habits using practices rooted in self-awareness, healing, and compassion.
