Biography
Leah Thomas is a celebrated environmentalist with a degree in Environmental Science & Policy and Comparative World Religions. Coining the term ‘eco-communicator’ to describe her style of environmental activism, Leah is a passionate advocate for the critical yet often overlooked relationship between social justice and environmentalism. With this intersection in mind, Leah founded and launched the non-profit Intersectional Environmentalist in 2020. Her book, The Intersectional Environmentalist (Hachette, March 2022), serves as an introduction to the intersection between environmentalism, racism, and privilege, and as an acknowledgment of the fundamental truth that we cannot save the planet without protecting all of its people. The Intersectional Environmentalist was taught in UCLA’s first year common experience program for the 2022-2023 school year, and is used in multiple other school curriculums. In 2023, Leah launched Green Girl Productions, a media company that seeks to create diverse and accessible conversations around environmental and social issues through partnerships, live events, and film/tv.
Leah has been named to several notable lists—including Forbes 30 Under 30, TIME100 NEXT, INSIDER’s Climate Action 30, Marie Claire’s Creators to Watch, EBONY Power 100, and InStyle’s The Badass 50.
