Biography
Heman Bekele is a 15 year old innovator, researcher, public speaker, and advocate for accessible science. Recognized as TIME Magazine's Kid of the Year in 2024 and America's Top Young Scientist in 2023, Heman has made significant strides in medical and innovative social impact.
He developed a low-cost, skin cancer-treating soap, aimed at improving affordable and accessible healthcare in underserved communities. His innovations have caught the attention of Forbes, The Washington Post, CNN, NPR, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and more.
Growing up in Ethiopia, Heman Bekele saw workers exposed to the harsh sun without protection, which made him aware of skin cancer risks. The real challenge, however, was the high cost of treatments, which many couldn't afford. This inspired him to develop an affordable and effective solution.
