Carl Radke
Mental Health and Addiction Awareness Advocate, Star of Bravo's Summer House & Social Entrepreneur
Biography
TV viewers will recognize Carl Radke for his big personality in his breakout role on Bravo's hit series Summer House. Since joining the show in its first season, he has become a fan favorite for his candidness. Over the years, viewers have watched him navigate friendships, relationships, a bad breakup and his career in sales and the startup world.
But what his audience may not know is throughout filming, as Carl played the part of the show’s “party boy,” he was battling alcohol and cocaine addiction. When the pandemic hit, Carl had time for a lot of self-reflection. It led him to become sober for a few months until he learned that his brother, who suffered from mental illness and addiction, passed away from a heroin overdose. Heartbroken, Carl spiraled out of control.
In early January of 2021, he hit rock bottom. On January 8, his journey toward sobriety began. “I couldn't live like that anymore,” Carl told the Today Show. “(Addiction) was killing me mentally, physically, emotionally, financially. I was powerless. I couldn't do it on my own. I realized I had to get a sponsor and start going to meetings and really fall on my knees and admit that I had an alcohol and cocaine problem.”
Carl’s journey toward sobriety resonates with many. He champions mental health, seamlessly weaving meditation, therapy and fitness into the fabric of his life — making him an inspiring figure for those facing similar challenges.
It’s a mission that has inspired his entrepreneurial side, too. Carl is the co-founder of Soft Bar + Cafe, a venue that will open soon in Brooklyn, New York. It will offer non-alcoholic beverages for those who want to enjoy social experiences without the need for alcohol. Soft Bar reflects Carl’s dedication to living a sober lifestyle and promoting healthier alternatives in social settings, he says.
Carl also rejoined fellow castmate Kyle Cooke to promote a new line of Loverboy non-alcoholic sparkling hard teas. (Carl was one of the founding members of Loverboy.) In addition, he helps companies launch everything from products to digital technologies.
As a speaker, Carl is captivating and engaging. Sharing his unique perspective on sobriety, mental health and entrepreneurship, he provides valuable lessons and motivation to his listeners.
