A Film Adaption of John O’Leary’s Bestselling Book—"On Fire"—Begins Production
28 Nov 2023
Production has begun on a movie based on APB speaker John O’Leary’s bestselling book—On Fire. It stars William H. Macy, John Corbett, Joel Courtney, DeVon Franklin and Stephanie Szostak. Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer, Reagan, A Wing and Prayer) is directing. In 1987, O’Leary was a curious nine-year-old boy. Playing with fire and gasoline, John created a massive explosion in his home and was burned on 100% of his body. He was given less than a 1% chance to live. Together with legendary St. Louis Cardinals’ announcer Jack Buck, John’s family, his faith and the entire city of St. Louis, young O’Leary fought to live, and showed us “what’s possible.”
“On Fire weaves together tragedy, redemption, baseball and a love story,” says O’Leary. “At a time of so much divisiveness, cynicism, and negativity, On Fire celebrates what happens when a community comes together, when personal imperfections are embraced and when we allow the fear of who we wish we were to finally give way to the gift of all we already are.”
“John O’Leary is the kind of person that makes us remember how lucky we are to be alive, and that all that happens to us can be a blessing,” says McNamara. “In these troubled times, we need to live an ‘inspired life.’ I can’t wait for the world to join us and discover who John O’Leary is and how we can all live ‘On Fire.’”
In addition to On Fire, John is the author of In Awe: Rediscover Your Childlike Wonder to Unleash Inspiration, Meaning and Joy, published in May 2020. John’s award-winning podcast—Live Inspired—has more than 2.5 million downloads and features world-class guests like Brené Brown, Mitch Albom and Shawn Achor.
