Orion Pictures Greenlights Feature Film on APB Speaker Coach Keith Adams
04 Jan 2023
A feature film depicting the life of APB speaker Coach Keith Adams and his two sons has been greenlighted by MGM’s Orion Pictures. Adams, who is deaf, is a football coach for the California School for the Deaf, Riverside. Both of his sons play for the school. After seven losing seasons, his team—the only deaf school in the division—made it to the state championship in 2021, where they lost. In 2022, they won it all—beating the same team. It is the only deaf school to win the state championship.
“We’re thrilled that the inspiring story of Keith Adams and the remarkable Cubs has found a home at MGM’s Orion Pictures, a studio with an incredible track record of telling bold and compelling stories,” Producer Freddy Wexler said in an interview with Variety. “Not only is this a heartfelt family and sports drama, it is also a groundbreaking story for representation in sports. With Orion’s support and an amazing creative team behind this film, we look forward to breaking new ground on representation in Hollywood.”
Also on board is APB speaker Josh Feldman, who is writing the script. Deaf since birth, Feldman is a writer, producer and actor. In 2017, he co-created This Close, the first major television show to be created by deaf people. It aired for two seasons on Sundance TV and was nominated for a Peabody Award, as well as a GLAAD Award. In 2018, Feldman won a Momentum Fellowship from the prestigious Sundance Institute. Most recently, he served as Co-Producer for the upcoming Marvel series ECHO, coming in 2023 on Disney+.
