Russian Journalist & APB Exclusive Dmitry Muratov Named to Time’s Most Influential People List

Russian journalist and Nobel Peace Prize Winner Dmitry Muratov has been named to Time magazine’s TIME100 Most Influential People List for 2022. Muratov was recognized in the Icons category.
Muratov, who is an APB exclusive speaker, co-founded the pro-democracy newspaper Novaya Gazeta in 1993 with several other journalists. He was the newspaper's editor-in-chief from 1995 to 2017, and again assumed the position in 2019. The newspaper is known for its reporting on governmental corruption and human rights violations.
Muratov was awarded the Nobel Prize for his efforts to "safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.” After the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, Muratov vowed to sell his Nobel medal to help refugees fleeing from Ukraine.
In a tribute to Muratov in the Time article, Bill Browder, CEO of Hermitage Capital Management and author of Freezing Order: A True Story of Money Laundering, Murder and Surviving Vladimir Putin’s Wrath, wrote, “Some heroes show moments of bravery; Dmitry Muratov has shown a lifetime of bravery.”
