June is Pride Month! Meet APB Speaker Cleve Jones, Driving Force Behind Important Gains Made Over The Past Four Decades
23 Jun 2020
In celebration of Pride Month, we honor APB speaker Cleve Jones, a renowned activist and speaker whose work began in the 1970s during the gay liberation movement. A mentee of groundbreaking LGBTQ+ activist Harvey Milk, Jones has gone on to co-found the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, create the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and publish the memoir, When We Rise.
June 2021 will mark the 40th anniversary of the CDC recognizing AIDs as a disease. With the onset of the AIDS epidemic, Jones rose up to organize the gay community and raise awareness through the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. The foundation has since grown into one of the largest and most influential advocacy organizations of its kind.
