Award-winning author and APB speaker Dr. Donna Hicks is the pioneering mind behind the Dignity Model, a signature approach that she has applied to the most divisive and deep-seated conflicts around the world. In her recent blog post, Donna mentions how the assaults to the dignity of African Americans perpetrated by police have a long history in this country.
Donna’s talks take a new look at leadership through the lens of honoring dignity. She shares workable recommendations on how any organization can create a culture that brings out the best in people. In this blog post, Donna expresses how saddened and outraged she is from the killing of George Floyd: “The tragic truth, however, is that most people, not just police officers, lack the knowledge and skills needed to ensure the recognition and protection of human dignity…My strong recommendation for law enforcement in this country is to get educated about dignity.” Donna’s hope is that police would take part in mandatory dignity education, in which they would learn how to treat all people, especially African Americans.
Dr. Hicks’ experiences resolving world conflict are now being implemented to transform workplace cultures. She connects the essential human need for dignity to the challenges facing corporations, healthcare and human services organizations, and even fostering civil dialog on college campuses.
