APB Speaker Kayla Harrison is on Her Way to MMA Stardom
26 Jun 2018
Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and APB speaker Kayla Harrison is on her way to becoming an MMA megastar, while competing under the Professional Fighters League (PFL) banner. At PFL 2 in the Chicago Theatre, Harrison made her debut as an MMA fighter. Harrison was matched against former Judo Olympian Brittney Elkin. However, Harrison overpowered Elkin and took home the victory.
“Despite the fight being Harrison’s debut in MMA, and the pressures to perform in front of a crowd that was chanting her name cheering her on, she maintained excellent poise” said Brian Mazique, Forbes Contributor.
Harrison is the first American to win two gold medals in Judo at the 2012 Olympics in London and the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Through Harrison’s Olympic success, she has had the opportunity to speak on her triumphs and the hardships she has faced, specifically her experience with sexual abuse. Harrison shares what we can all do to keep kids safe in her new book Fighting Back, and aims to use her Olympic profile to inspire, encourage, and empower her audience.
