"The Today Show" Celebrates APB's Steve Pemberton & "A Chance in the World"
18 Dec 2018
Calling the inspiring new movie based on his life “powerful,” The Today Show’s Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin welcomed childhood abuse survivor and pioneering human resources executive Steve Pemberton to the show. Against a backdrop of clips from the film, which is based on his best-selling memoir of the same name, Pemberton shared highlights of his life story growing up in foster care, overcoming adversity and turning tragedy into triumph.
“I want my life to be an example of what’s possible,” said Steve. “We all come into the world as inheritors of something, it could be a great name, great fame, great wealth, but it could also be great tragedy. What we want the message to be is that if you ever find yourself on a dark road that’s not of your doing, find the house with the light on. It may be down that road a little bit and it might even be around the corner, but it’s there. And when you find that house with that light on, just know that you have the responsibility to be that light for somebody else.”
