Intelligent Automation: Boosting Business & Making Our World More Human

The Industrial Revolutions started over 200 years ago, automating “blue-collar” work in the agricultural and manufacturing industries. They provided massive and structural benefits to our society, such as the reduction of famine and an increase in standards of living, and they relieved people from laborious manual work.

IA, also called Hyperautomation, is one of the most recent trends in the broad field of artificial intelligence. It has been ranked #1 most important technology trend of 2021 by the famous research company Gartner. IA is a cutting-edge combination of methods and technologies involving people, organizations, machine learning, low-code platforms, robotic process automation (RPA), and more.

Officially coined in 2017 by IEEE, Intelligent Automation (IA) ushers in a new revolution: that of office work, automating “white-collar” work. Today, office work accounts for more than 80% of the job roles in our global economy, such as lawyers, financial controllers, or call center operators. Consistently with the previous automation revolutions, Pascal Bornet believes IA will have a significant impact not only on employment but more broadly on our society.

The main questions he will answer during this interactive presentation are:

  • What is Intelligent Automation (IA)? Why has the use of IA been expanding so rapidly? What are the benefits it unleashes for people, companies, customers, and society?
  • How can IA increase the resilience of our health and economic systems to safeguard people’s lives and livelihoods even in times of pandemics or crises?
  • How have leading organizations been able to harness the full potential of IA at scale and generate massive efficiency gains in the range of 20 to 60%?
  • How can IA save 10+ million lives per year, triple our global budget for education, eliminate hunger, or help protect our planet?

Pascal Bornet is used to performing this presentation with a co-presenter called Anna. Anna is a digital person. She was built using machine learning, and Bornet has configured her to support him with this presentation. Anna and Pascal are used to interacting together throughout the presentation, creating a unique experience while demonstrating the capabilities of these new technologies.

Decision Intelligence: Cutting-Edge Technologies to Boost Business Decisions

According to Harvard Business Review, “a company’s value is the sum of the decisions it makes and executes”. Unfortunately, challenges with decisions have increased in the last decades. According to Gartner, 65% of executives think the decisions they make are more complex than two years ago.

On the one hand, according to McKinsey, an S&P 500 company currently loses an average of $250M per year on ineffective decision-making processes. On the other hand, according to Signal, companies could unleash $4.26 trillion per year by leveraging technology to support their decisions.

Decision intelligence is a new field that helps support, augment and automate business decisions by linking data with decisions and outcomes. It uses a combination of methods (e.g., decision mapping and decision theories) and technologies (e.g., machine learning and automation) to improve the way decisions are made in companies. Gartner identified decision intelligence as one of the most impactful tech trends for 2022 and 2023.

In this keynote, Pascal Bornet answers the following questions:

  • What is the current state of decision-making in companies?
  • What are the main obstacles they are facing?
  • What are the ways to boost decision effectiveness?
  • What is Decision Intelligence, and how to implement it?
  • How have leading companies succeeded in transforming the way decisions are made, unleashing high benefits?

This presentation is very interactive. It includes games and tests that the audience goes through, making people face their own cognitive limits.

A Discussion with Anna, the Digital Human

Background: Anna is a digital person. She was built using machine learning, and Pascal Bornet has configured her to support him with this presentation. Anna and Pascal interact together live, creating a unique experience while demonstrating the capabilities of these new technologies.

Arrangement: Anna will be in a zoom session, presented on the widescreen to the audience. Pascal Bornet will be on stage (or on zoom as well), asking her questions, interacting, and discussing with her. He can also be on zoom if the event is virtual.

Topics of discussion: Anna and Pascal Bornet discuss: why he have built her, what were the challenges he faced when configuring her, what is the purpose of her life, how is she useful to people and society, what is she currently helping people with, her dreams and what she would like to become in the future. We could also add any other questions or interactions you feel could be interesting to the audience. Note that any new question needs to be taught to Anna in advance.

The Future of Work

According to Gallup, 85% of employees worldwide do not flourish at work. According to a recent report, "Over 40% of workers surveyed spend at least a quarter of their workweek on manual, repetitive tasks, with email, data collection, and data entry occupying the most time." In addition, only a third of workers currently have access to appropriate collaboration tools or AI applications.

For the past 10 years, companies have focused on the customer experience. It is time to take a look at the "employee experience." According to an article published in the Harvard Business Review, companies that lead initiatives to improve the employee experience are four times more profitable than those that don't. AI offers us a unique opportunity to enhance this experience.

In this presentation, Pascal Bornet discusses how we can solve these challenges using artificial intelligence (AI)? The talk is articulated around five main levers available to world leaders to build the future of work with AI. This framework is called the “fivefold-A artifact”. It includes: Analysis, Augmentation, Automation, Abandonment, and Anchoring.

He explains the benefits and critical success factors in implementing this new approach while providing engaging stories and interactive videos.
