APB's Tina Brown Weighs in on Election 2016
APB speaker Tina Brown hosted an event earlier this week to raise awareness for the Women’s Health Initiative. At the event, Brown (the founder of Women in the World) spoke about women’s issues in the presidential election—a topic at the forefront of debate leading up to Election Day. “Some people say, ‘Oh it’s been great for Hillary that she ended up with Trump.’ I don’t think it’s been great for Hillary to have Donald Trump. I think she finds it very painful to have to be running in this atmosphere.”
“They haven’t discussed any women’s issues so far,” Brown told the panel. “I mean, there’s an obsession on the Republican side with interfering with women’s bodies and wanting to dictate how they live and their own choices.” In the last debate, both candidates addressed their stance on abortion, with Hillary saying “I will defend Planned Parenthood. I will defend Roe v. Wade and I will defend women's rights to make their own health care decisions.” Trump, on the other hand, identifies as anti-abortion, except in extreme situations; when asked if he would overturn Roe v. Wade, he stated “I am putting pro-life justices on the court…and the states will make a decision.”
